About me

I will create an About section later. In the mean time this is my current state. I am 25 year old male. I'm in a serious relationship. I am a graduate student and make money conducting research and teaching. I will be finished in 3-4 years and after that I would like to have my own lab. I know that becoming a scientist is difficult. There are not many openings in the field. If the path to a scientist does not come about I have many back up plans with most having to do with the technology industry. As of August 2008, I have a net worth of -$35,3010. Yea, that is a negative sign. I currently have $27,141 in unsubsidized federal Stafford student loans and $17,771 in subsidized Federal Stafford student loans. I have paid the interest off on the unsubsidized loans on April 2008 and have been paying $150 a month since then to keep the interest at zero. By the end of the year I will have paid a little over $2,600 in interest. This is the current maximum allowed deduction for federal income taxes. I plan to pay down the principle by $500 each month on the unsubsidized student loans. I am also taking out about $12,000 in subsidized student loans this year to transfer some of the interest bearing student loans into the non-interest bearing subsidized student loans. Besides my job as a teaching assistant and research assistant I also am a guinee pig at the local medical center where I participate as a health individual. The money is very good. I made $350 eating biologically enhanced vegetables for 2 days (I only had to eat them for breakfast). I made $300 looking at artwork while I was inside an functional MRI machine. Soon I will be getting another $350 for getting a vaccine. The vaccine is already approved by the FDA and all the study was researching was routs of administration. What an easy $1000 that was! As for my assests, I have $5,000 in emergency funds. This equals about 6 months of expenses. I have this in case I get injured or have any other short-term emergency. I also opened a Roth IRA in March 2008 with $3,150. As it has only been opened this year, the percent increase in small due to market volatility. I also own a 7 year old truck. I bought it brand new in 2000. It only had 15 miles on it when I bought it and now has 124,000 miles. I should not have bought a brand new vehicle since so much of my money was lost to depreciation. I will not buy a new car ever again. Currently my truck is worth about $3,000. I also have a small amount ($150) in a 401k in my old job, and also have $1000 in cash savings to pay for things this month for moving.
